About - Andy Wheeler
With over 30 years of experience in high-performance coaching, club development, and tennis governance, Andy Wheeler is one of New Zealand’s most respected and influential tennis coaches. A Tennis New Zealand Club Coach of the Year recipient, Andy has played a pivotal role in shaping New Zealand’s tennis landscape, from grassroots participation to elite player development.
Andy started his performance journey working for Neil Carter (the former NZ Fed Cup Captain 2018 and 2024 NZ Olympics Coach), before securing an opportunity to work alongside Lan Bale (Former Professional Tennis Player, ranked 27 in the world (doubles; 1995); ex NZ Davis Cup Coach & Tennis NZ Performance Coach 2018). Andy launched Capital Coaching in 2008 and successfully ran Thorndon, Karori, Mitchell Park, Kilbirnie & Muritai Tennis Clubs for 10 years. Andy was active in many Wellington based schools, including Scots College, Queens Margarets & Chilton St James.
Andy is also a dedicated mentor to aspiring tennis coaches, sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience to help cultivate the next generation of coaching talent in New Zealand. Through workshops, one-on-one mentoring, and professional development programs, he empowers coaches to excel in their careers while fostering a collaborative and forward-thinking tennis community.
